Celebrate those who have created Social Justice through Hope, Courage, and Change by marching 6 feet apart or participating in a virtual march. Honor the women and men who worked so hard to win the vote for women and commemorate how far we've come in the 100 years since the 19th Amendment was passed. Celebrate a special woman or group of women who has opened doors and contributed to creating social justice for all.
We are now accepting pictures and videos for the virtual parade! Register as an individual or as a group!

Continuing our 100th Anniversary Year Celebration, we're pleased to offer a virtual reading and workshop by poet HELEN RUGGIERI
To have your work considered for the workshop, send 2 poems no longer than 2 pages each to rochesterpoets@gmail.com. Please submit your work as attachments in doc/docx or RTF format, with "Ruggieri workshop" as the Subject of your email.
Helen Ruggieri earned an MFA in Poetry Writing and taught at the creative writing and literature at University of Pittsburgh, Bradford campus.
In 2000, she spent a semester at Yokohama College in Japan and became interested in the literature of early Japan. When she returned, she became a member of the East Asian Studies program, teaching Japanese literature and the Summer Intensive English Program for Japanese students on Pitt's Bradford Campus.
She retired in 2009, but has also worked as a visiting poet in area schools and currently teaches a poetry workshop at the Cattaraugus County Mental Health Association.
Helen been writing for nearly forty years, and her work has been published widely in magazines and anthologies in the US and abroad. She has several books and chapbooks, among them "The Poetess" (Allegany Mt. Press); "Glimmer Girls" (Mayapple Press); "Concrete Madonna" (S & S Press); and "Rock City Hill Exercises" (Allegany Mt. Press). Her book of short prose pieces in the Japanese haibun form is titled "The Character for Woman" (Foothills Publishing), and is about living in Japan.
Her most recent book of poem is "Butterflies Under a Japanese Moon" (Kitsune Books), a collection of haiku and traditional poems, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 2012. Those of you attending the workshop will be interested in reading her chapter, Rejection, published in the anthology Far Villages: Welcome Essays for New and Beginner Poets (Black Lawrence Press, ed. Abayomi Animashaun)
Helen's books can be purchased via Amazon and Addall (http://addall.com and http://used.addall.com)
To attend or participate, download Zoom's free video conferencing software. For Windows, go zoom.com, create an account, and download and install the software. If you're on a Mac, go the App Store; if you're on Android, go to Google Play.
On the day of the reading, just before 2 pm, launch Zoom, and click on the Join button, then enter the Meeting ID # below in the box at the top and click Join Meeting. If you find you're in a Waiting Room, wait to be admitted by the host. You may have to click on the camera and mic icons if they're red. You can keep your mic on, but we ask that you mute it if there are distracting noises in the background.
The ID for the Reading is 791 7457 2720.
Even if you can't join us, do invite friends who might be interested with the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/79174572720
OR by providing them the link to this event page: http://j.mp/ropo2009
We're also planning to reschedule our April reading featuring members of the Watkins Glen Writers Group: Charlotte Dickens, Dudley Bishop, Mark Matthews, and Rikki Marcin.
You can support RoPo's ongoing efforts and our featured readers with a donation and/or an annual membership, which is still only $20. To use your credit/debit card, go to http://squareup.com/store/rochester-poets/
Helen's reading is funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
An incidental note about Zoom. Many have complained that they only have 2 choices on Zoom: have their video on or have it off, which leaves a black box and possibly your name. There IS an alternative! When you're in the Zoom app (on a smartphone), click on Settings in the lower right hand corner. You should see your name at the top, or at least your initials. Click on the arrow > on the right hand side which will bring you to your Profile Photo. Click on the box where the photo should be, and you'll be prompted to Change Profile Photo.
You can take a shot of yourself or select one from your phone or a picture of your choosing. Once you replace your photo, when you turn your camera off, people will see the photo and NOT a black box!! If you're on a desktop or laptop, the process is a tad different. Settings is in the upper right hand corner. And when you click on it, you scroll down to Profile and then click on Edit My Profile.
See you online on the 20th!
