Description:
Join us for the first event of our 100th Anniversary year, a reading by poet MICHAEL KETCHEK, followed by our Open Mic. Sunday, January 20, 2-5 pm, in the Living Room at Legacy at Cranberry Landing. Michael Ketchek has lived most of his life in Rochester, NY. Since 1985, his haiku, tanka, haibun and political rants have appeared regularly in journals and magazines including Raw Nervz, Tanka Splendor, Five Lines Down, Frogpond, Black Bough, American Tanka, and bottle rockets. His work has also been anthologized in numerous collections, including Haiku Moment, Baseball Haiku, Modern Haiku and The Tanka Anthology. He founded Free Food Press and has published a number of chapbooks of his work, among them, Childhood Now, The Places In Between, Who I Am, and Haiku for Hippies. He also published the novel, Haiku Detective. His press has also published work by other authors such as Tom Clausen and Deb Koen. Michael was also one of the founding members of the original Rochester haiku group and is a member of its successor, the Rochester Area Haiku Group (RAHG), which meets on the 2nd Sunday of most months in the Community Room at Barnes & Noble, Pittsford. Michael is currently the editor of Frogpond, the official publication of the Haiku Society of America, which is published 3 times a year. Don't forget that our open mics are NOT limited to poets: singers, musicians, short fiction writers, comics, and even dancers are also welcome. Even if you can't join us, if you know folks who might enjoy attending, to perform or as audience members, pass the word and send them the following link to our public invite: http://j.mp/RoPo1901 You can also support RoPo's ongoing efforts with an annual membership, which is still only $20. To join using your credit/debit card, go to http://squareup.com/store/rochester-poets/ Our readings are FREE and open to the public; donations to support Rochester Poets are encouraged and gratefully accepted.
