6:30pm [6:30pm] Public Hearing on Community Choice Aggregation
Description:
WHAT: Public Hearing on Community Choice Aggregation WHEN: Tuesday, July 17; Town Board meeting starts at 6:30pm. Public Hearing on Community Choice Aggregation starts at 7:35pm WHERE: Irondequoit Town Hall, 1280 Titus Ave., Rochester, 14617 WHY: To show support for the Town passing legislation enabling purchase of 100% renewable energy for all households and small businesses Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is a bulk energy purchase mechanism, kind of like a buying club. The aggregated demand of all households and small businesses in the municipality can be used to negotiate better electricity rates. It can also be used to negotiate other benefits such as 100% renewable energy sources, and the phase-in of locally generated solar power. Our friends in member organization Mothers Out Front have been leading the effort to educate Irondequoit residents about CCA and advocate for a 100% renewable implementation. Please come and add your support Tuesday night! Town officials will be deciding whether to pass a local law that enable them to move forward with the program. Several Towns, Villages, and the City of Rochester are in various stages of moving forward with CCA. So far, the Villages of Brockport and Lima and the Town of Geneva have passed the local law and decided to go 100% renewable. The Town of Brighton, City of Geneva, and and Village of Scottsville have passed the local law, but have not yet decided whether to pursue price solely or to also go with 100% renewable energy. The Town of Pittsford has been actively engaging its residents in a dialogue about what to do. The City of Rochester has expressed intent to move forward with CCA after clearing internal hurdles. As local municipalities consider CCA, we at RPCC ask you to come out and show support for a 100% renewable program. If you're an Irondequoit resident, please go and either share a comment during the hearing, or simply stand or clap or just be there to show support. If you're not a resident of Irondequoit, your presence still shows support. Read about CCA here. Read Irondequoit's proposed local law here.
