6:00pm [6:00pm] Discussion: Disparities in societal reaction to Black Lives Matter youth versus
Description:
Dear fellow Rochesterians, Janaya Khan in their Root essay asks the critical question: "Why was it so easy to support the Parkland youths while the youths in the Movement for Black Lives were repudiated and disregarded? Please join SURJ ROC Monday night (Feb 26th) at 6pm for discussion about the disparities in public response to the Black Lives Matter youth activists fighting for their lives versus the Parkland youth activists fighting for their lives - a manifestation of our racialized society. More importantly, we will be identifying and committing to actions we can take as people striving to be allies and assets in the fight for racial justice so the BLM youth activists get the support they need. Details: Discussion: Disparities in societal reaction to BLM youth versus Parkland youth Date: Monday Feb 26th, Time: 6pm - 8pm Location: Gay Alliance 100 College Street in Rochester. We will have brief committee and campaign updates, but spend the bulk of the meeting on this discussion. Additional suggested reading: https://www.facebook.com/keeangayamahtta.taylor/posts/10216079822212314 https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/black-lives-gun-violence-florida-shooting_us_5a8f1a11e4b00804dfe6a466?ncid=engmodushpmg00000003
