How is the climate crisis driving refugee crises in Muslim nations? How do U.S. military leaders view climate change? How does climate activism intersect with the struggle for racial justice? What of the economic promises of renewable energy? And how can we join the upcoming March for Science and Climate March? Dr. Sandra Steingraber will be joined by a panel of experts and activists to discuss the intersectionalities of climate change and the future of environmental activism in the current political climate, with a special focus on local initiatives. Dr. Steingraber is a distinguished scholar in residence at Ithaca College. She is a biologist, author, and activist. This event is part of Ithaca College Sustainability [Earth] Week. Hard Hitting Songs for Hard-Hit People Tuesday, April 18th 7pm at the Flying Squirrel Community Space 285 Clarissa St Join us for an evening of folk music with Mat Callahan and Yvonne Moore! Their tour commemorates the 50th anniversary of the publication of the songbook, “Hard Hitting Songs for Hard Hit People.” This songbook was compiled by Alan Lomax, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger and contains more than one hundred songs composed by American workers and farmers in the 1920’s, ‘30’s and ‘40’s. The duet’s performance features the songs of Sara Ogan Gunning, Aunt Molly Jackson, Jim Garland, Ella May Wiggins, John Handcox and Woody Guthrie and includes history as well as music. These songs are not only the authentic, but long-forgotten, voice of common people at that time, they express a spirit and determination that can inspire us today.
